Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. That sounds like a catechism-type answer, and it is, but I know what it means because Pr. St-Onge went over this particular verse to teach me about Christianity. Conforming my thinking to God's Word wasn't something I'd had to do before, and I'm wondering if we're really better off when we come up with our own creeds, liturgies, etc. because repetition can become "hollow." Learning the meaning of something piece-by-piece through old forms eventually produces a richer understanding than inventing words and forms of our own.

Great insight Adam. I'm definitely with you. If our use of the Creed has become "rote" or "hollow" the problem is not the Creed, but US. Those who complain about "dead" traditional liturgies can only say so if they don't believe the words being spoken in the liturgies are TRUE. In that case, the issue is a matter of unbelief on the part of the hearer, not a matter of God's Word having no power in itself.
